Macedonian_News_Service : Message: Daily Bulletin part 3: "Athens, May 28 (MIA) - International mediator in the Athens-Skopje dispute on the use of Macedonia's constitutional name, Matthew Niemitz stated his intentions were to resume the efforts with regard to reaching a settlement for the name dispute issue.
- I mustn't break off the mediation mission, said Niemitz in an interview with Athens-based 'Kathimerini' newspaper, Bulgaria's news agency BTA reports on Monday. He estimated that Macedonia's NATO membership process was the last resort in solving the name issue.
- The obligation of a mediator is to abide by the procedure. Hence, I consider that both sides keep demonstrating inclination towards cooperation and have a responsible approach towards the issue. Moreover, the talks are resuming, which is positive. Of course, there's no solution yet, which is of key importance, but we will resume, said Niemitz.
'Kathimerini' argues that Niemitz's statement denied the rumors, unveiled by Greek media, that he is set to step down from the post in September due to possible extraordinary elections in Greece upon the request by Greek PM Costas Karamanlis, who plans on using the name dispute issue.
The newspaper reports that things will become more transparent considering the name dispute issue over the course of the US President George Bush's Balkans tour in June.
